My goal with this page is to provide you with some common and useful phrases in as many languages as possible. If I may moralize a bit, let me say that I believe that communication and understanding are the first steps towards "world peace", and if you cannot talk to your neighbour, how are you going to achive communication? I have made a point of always learning at least some every-day phrases in the local language whenever I visit a foreign country. Even if you are only able to converse in English, a simple hello or thank you in the local language is always appreciated, and I believe that is the way to go.

One particular problem when creating this page was the Greek spelling. Due to technical limitations I was not able to use the Greek alphabet, so Olle and I tried to come up with a good conversion to the Latin alphabet based on English pronunciation. A simialar conversion from the Cyrillic alphabet was made by Karin. If you have any suggestions on alternate solutions, please let me know. I would also very much appreciate your comments on the translations as well as contributions in other languages and general feed-back.

I thank the following people for their advise and contributions:
Kajsa Båsk, Jens Dahlin, Teresa Eriksson, Manfred Furuholmen, Johan Josefsson, Yuri Kazakov, Lucile Redmond, Erwin Rol, Gundemarie Scholz, Kibbie Smith, Karin Spångberg, Katarina Sundquist, Olle Tidblad, Susanna Westlund and Ulrika Wikström.

Now, if you have read all of the above, and not cheated your way down here, select a language to be displayed on the right:

Danish Dutch Finnish French German Greek Icelandic Irish Italian Japanese Polish Russian Spanish Swedish Ukrainian
